Jan. 30 DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Seniors -- it's time to check the diploma list to be sure that your name is spelled correctly!   Please stop at the counseling desk to check the list and also to fill out a card with the phonetic pronunciation of your name as well as other information that is required.   You have until next Friday, February 6th to do this!

You can tie fleece blankets for cancer patients and homeless children. Bring scissors, fleece and your friends.

Congratulations Nordic Skiers. The boys team won yesterdays Conference Pursuit Championship race, placing 4 skiers in the top 10 - Zak Ketterson 1st, Tamer Mische-Richter 2nd, Blake Nelson 6th and Alex Larson 7th. Down by 8 points after the first race the Bloomington team rallied in the second race to overtake St. Louis Park. All Conference honors go to the four skiers. The girls team finished 4th with Chloe Larson and Ella Borgerding getting All Conference honors.

ACTIVITIES:

Man Pageant contestants:  meet in the TV studio (B104) this Friday at 7:30 AM for a quick interview for SPOTS. 

Congratulations to Director Elizabeth Tanner, the cast and crew of The Trojan Women for being the Metro West Conference One Act Champions Tuesday night at Benilde-St Margaret's.  Best of Luck to them as they move into sectional competition on Thursday at BSM.

Attention Math Lovers! The American Mathematics Competition will take place on Tuesday, February 3rd in the cafeteria during 1st and 2nd hour. It is a 25-question math test using algebra and geometry open to all grade levels.  If you perform well, you can move on to the next round and can even qualify for scholarships and prizes.  If you are interested, please stop by C112 and ask Ms. Lauer for a field trip form.  Forms must be turned in by Friday.

Athletics:

The Bloomington Jefferson alpine team had their final conference race last night at Afton Alps.
The Jefferson Boys finished second overall in the event and the girls finished fifth.

Individual boys honors go to junior captain Ryan Murray (who finished second overall), sophomore Alex Schneider (3rd) and freshman Matthew Gasser (9th).

Individual girls honors go to freshman Morgan Gasser (1st) and sophomore Kaari Garnett (3rd)

Jan. 27 DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

JHS remember this week is a traditional 6-period week there will be no homeroom or academic seminar.

ACTIVITIES:

Yesterday was the Minnesota State High School Science Bowl competition at Macalester College.  32 teams competed to answer science and math related questions.  Our team placed 23rd!  Congratulations to Samantha Evert (10th grade), Mia Locquengnies (10th grade), Sophia Gleason (10th grade), Heidi Krauss (10th grade) and Emily Jorschumb (9th grade)

All 1 Act play participants will be excused at 2:00 for the Metro West 1-Act play competition at Benilde-St Margaret's.

Over the weekend the Jefferson Science Olympiad team traveled to River Falls, Wisconsin to compete in a Border Battle tournament with 59 teams from 32 of the best performing schools from Minnesota, North Dakota and Eastern Wisconsin. Of the 34 large school teams, Jefferson placed 13th, with five top-10 event finishes. In addition to this, of all schools present, Jefferson was awarded the one-and-only Spirit Award for demonstrating excellence in enthusiasm and positive energy at this year's Border Battle tournament.

ACTIVITIES:

The International Club meeting at El Tejaban Mexican Restaurant tonight is canceled. We will discuss a date to reschedule at the next homeroom meeting.


Speech team members who are competing or watching the Chanhassen Tournament need to be at the Jefferson front doors tomorrow morning by 6:55 A.M.  The bus will leave at 7:00 AM.  We will return to Jefferson between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM.

Attention math team - please check your email or the math team website for a link to the sign up for the meet at Kennedy on Monday. You need to arrive at Kennedy by 3:15.

Athletics:

Placing in last night's gymnastics meet against Lakeville North:
Leah Dargis = 1st on vault, 4th on floor, 4th all around
Hannah Mellesmoen = 2nd on beam.


Jag Power and football weight training will both begin at 3pm today. Meet in the weight room. Coach Ryan will be there to hand out programs.
